Bernardo Cortese, MD, FESC, FSCAI
President

Prof.. Bernardo Cortese

Prof. Bernardo Cortese, president of the scientific committee of Fondazione RIC, is an expert Interventional Cardiologist with an invaluable experience of over 20 years and a special dedication to the complex patients/lesions setting. He is an international opinion leader on drug-coated balloons, bioresorbable scaffolds, antithrombotic drugs, complex angioplasty, CTO and intravascular imaging.

Prof. Cortese has published several hundred papers in peer reviewed high-impact Journals and authored a number of books in the interventional cardiology field. He is active in research and education, providing mentorship to fellows from all over the globe. He has conducted numerous important clinical trials that have revolutionized the field of Interventional Cardiology.

Stefano De Servi, MD, FESC

Professor of Cardiology, University of Pavia since 1993. Chairman of the Department of
Cardiovascular Diseases of the Legnano Hospital (2000-2014); Chief Operative Unit of Coronary; Care Unit IRCCS Fondazione Policlinico S.Matteo, Pavia (2014 – 2016).

At present retired Professor of Cardiology. Research activities concern pathophysiological and clinical aspects of acute coronary syndromes (more than 450 papers quoted in PubMed; h-index Scopus = 58 ). Principal Investigator in Italy for several trials, including TRITON-TIMI 38, CHAMPION-PCI, DA VINCI, ELDERLY ACS, ELDERLY-ACS 2 trials and registries. Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology since 1989. Former President of the Italian Society of Interventional Cardiology SICI-GISE (2006-2007)

Marco Frazzetto, MD
Grants Discovery and Application

Marco is an interventional cardiologist and a clinical researcher, fellow in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology at the Cardiac Center in Lugano, Switzerland, under the guidance of Professor Marco Valgimigli. He is a passionate researcher in the field of Interventional Cardiology and has authored over 40 scientific articles published in international journals.

From July 2024 to July 2025, he was a researcher in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology at University Hospitals, Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, under the guidance of Professors Guilherme Attizzani and Bernardo Cortese. He is currently a clinician and researcher, a member of the Scientific Committee of Fondazione RIC and a Fellow of DCB Academy.

Filippo Gurguglione, MD
Clinical Research Coordinator

Filippo is an interventional cardiologist at the Department of Cardiology, Parma University Hospital, Italy. He obtained his MD and specialty in Cardiology from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, and completed a PhD in Medical and Surgical Translational Sciences at the University of Parma.

His clinical and research activities focus on coronary artery disease, with particular interest in drug-coated balloon angioplasty, intracoronary imaging, coronary microvascular dysfunction, and diabetes-related coronary artery disease.

He is a Fellow of DCB Academy.

He is the author of over 60 peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals.
